To begin the study lets pray. Dear Father in heaven please give us
spiritual discernment to understand Your Word, and lead us into all
truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
How
do we
obey
God?
By following His instructions. And you would say: how do we follow Gods
instructions? By keeping His commandments. It is that simple. Jesus
says: “If ye keep
My commandments
,
ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my father’s
commandments, and abide in his love.” John 15:10. He also says:
“For this is the love of God, that we may keep His
commandments: and His commandments are not grievous.” 1 John 5:3.
God’s
blessings:
And if we keep Gods commandments he will bless us because the Bible
says: “O that there were such an heart in them, that they
would fear Me, and keep My commandments always, that it might be
well with them, and with their children forever!” Deuteronomy 5:29.
God’s commandments:
All of the commandments that God gave are:
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of
anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath,
or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down
thyself to serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the
fourth generation of them that hate Me;
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord
will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.
Remember the Sabbath
day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy
work: but the seventh day is the Sabbath
of the lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy
son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor
thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gats: For in six
days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them
is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the
Sabbath
day, and hallowed it.
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land
which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Thou shalt not kill.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet
thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant,
nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor’s.”
Did you know that there are only two commandments that have a specific
promise attached to them? These are: the fourth-God’s Sabbath, and the fifth-honor thy father and thy mother. In the fourth, the
Creator promises to cause us to “…ride the hills of the
earth, and feed us with the inheritance of Jacob” (Isaiah
58:13). Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may belong
upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. And the Ten
Commandments are found in Exodus 20:1-17.
God’s Sabbath:
“Remember
the Sabbath
day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy
work: but the seventh
day
is the Sabbath
of the lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy
son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant,
nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gats: For in six
days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them
is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the
Sabbath
day, and hallowed it.” So Sunday worshippers should check
their calendars and see that the seventh
day
is Saturday, not Sunday.
“Blessed are they that do His Commandments, that may have right to the tree
of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”
Revelation 22:14.
